"Now I have mentors who understand me and a group that feels like family."

Who We Are

Built by immigrants,
for the next generation.

Brighter Tomorrow was started by two immigrants who lived this story. Denzel Kabasele and David Kamwanga knew what it felt like to arrive in a new country with everything to figure out. They built the community they wished had been there for them.

Every student who walks through our doors carries something powerful. We just help them discover it.

  • ESL & Creative Writing - Finding your voice in a new language
  • Mentorship - Real mentors who have walked the same path
  • College Access - Making college feel possible, not just theoretical
  • Mental Wellness - Care that understands where students come from

I built Brighter Tomorrow because I lived this story. I know what it feels like to arrive somewhere new with big dreams and no roadmap. My goal is simple: give these students access to things that change how they see themselves and what is possible. Exposure changes everything.

Our Story

Built by people who lived it.

Two immigrants from the DRC who found their footing in America and built the community they wished had existed for them.

Our Foundation

Started in July 2023 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Brighter Tomorrow was started in July 2023 by Denzel Kabasele and David Kamwanga, two immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo who knew firsthand what it felt like to be new to America and figuring everything out alone.

What started as a belief became a community. Today we serve students across Lancaster and extend our reach to children in Africa.

We show up for young people navigating a world that is still new to them, and we help them find their footing.

Founder's Note
Denzel M. Kabasele
Founder & CEO
"We leave our homes in search of safety, and end up finding strength we never knew we had."

I am grateful every day to do this work. My dream is that every student we serve discovers what they are capable of, and one day passes that belief on to someone else.

Exposure changes everything. Show a young person what is possible, and they will find their own way there.

What We Do

Six Core Programs.
One Transformative Mission.

Each program starts where the student is. Then we build from there.

01
Academic Support

Tutoring & Academic Support

A lot of our students arrive having missed school, struggled with a new language, or never had the academic support they needed. Our tutoring program meets them exactly where they are and helps them move forward.

The goal is not just better grades. It is a student who believes they belong in that classroom.

  • Personalized academic support for each student
  • Improved grades and classroom confidence
  • Stronger study habits and self-advocacy

02
Leadership

Mentorship & Life Guidance

Every young person deserves a guide who truly understands their journey. Our mentors are people who share similar backgrounds and know what it means to start over in a new country.

We also bring in guest speakers from business, law, and community to show students what is possible for their own futures.

  • Long-term mentoring relationships built on trust
  • Exposure to diverse career paths and role models
  • Stronger decision-making and goal-setting skills

Wellness - New 2024

Mental Wellness Support

The immigrant experience carries invisible weight. Grief, cultural displacement, and the pressure to adapt while holding onto who you are. Many of our students carry things that go unaddressed.

In partnership with Touchstone Foundation and Samaritan Counseling Center, we launched our first Mental Wellness Program in 2024 - a safe, culturally informed space where students can care for their emotional health.

  • Group sessions and individual counseling referrals
  • Culturally-informed emotional support tools
  • Partnerships with licensed mental health providers

Creative Arts

Creative Writing

Language is the first door to belonging. Poetry helps unlock it. Our Creative Writing program, developed by instructor Dana Kinsey (M.A. in Theatre, Villanova University), teaches students to craft spoken word poems inspired by their own stories.

Students write, receive feedback from peers and professional artists, and culminate in a community performance. This builds English fluency while giving students a powerful, authentic voice.

  • Language fluency through personal storytelling
  • Published student poems and public performance
  • Increased academic confidence and sense of identity

Future Ready

College Exposure

For a lot of our students, college has always felt like something for other people. We change that. Campus visits, workshops, and conversations with people who made it help students see that higher education is for them too.

In 2024, we completed 8 college tours, giving students firsthand experience of campus life.

  • 8 college tours completed
  • Application, essay, and financial aid workshops
  • Connections to first-generation college mentors

Life Skills

Life Skills Development

Life is bigger than academics. Brighter Tomorrow prepares students for all of it. Sports, music, financial literacy, and leadership - these programs build discipline, teamwork, and a sense of identity that carries into every area of life.

  • Sports programs building teamwork and discipline
  • Music, performance, and creative self-expression
  • Financial literacy and real-world life skills
